Only that way does one stand a chance of producing something good.<\/p>\n<p>Life is short and Art is long!<\/p>\n<p>The day before his death Socrates in his prison asked a musician to teach him an air on the lyre. \u201cWhat\u2019s the use,\u201dsaid the man, \u2018since you\u2019re about to die?\u201d\u201cTo know it before I die,\u201d answered Socrates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Gustav Flaubert<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u00a0 Catherine hiking in Ojai.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The brink of another year demands reflection on the closing year, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Due to medical challenges, this was a resting and recuperating year. One book was published, <em><strong>Remarkable Women <\/strong><\/em>followed by teaching two new courses: <em><strong>The Callings: Listening to the Inner Voice,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>and\u00a0<em><strong>Jung &amp; the Power of Dreams. <\/strong><\/em>Mostly though, it was replenishing the well. Though there is no scarcity of ideas for possible new books, yet sometimes the spirit sags.<\/p>\n<p>This will be my 4th year to offer <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Soul Resolutions in Tranformative Times <span style=\"color: #000000;\">at the Krotona Institute here in Ojai, CA &#8211; <span style=\"color: #993300;\">also on ZOOM<\/span><\/span>. Sat, Jan 10, 2026, 2-4:30pm for a fee of $15.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And also my 5th year to offer <em><strong>, <\/strong><\/em><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Great Films, Time<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>less Themes <\/strong><\/em><\/span>(Sept-Oct in Ojai at Krotona Institute.)<\/p>\n<p>Some excellent films this year. Though I stopped voting for the Oscars due to the increased darkness &amp; violence from Hollywood, the positive point is that I can avoid those kinds of films &amp; watch whatever I choose.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Here&#8217;s my top 4:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Nuremberg (USA) (see my earlier review posted in the previous blog.)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Sentimental Value (Norway)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hamnet (USA) Shakespeare&#8217;s family drama.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Come See Me in the Good Light (USA) (documentary)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>whose theme is &#8220;It&#8217;s not about dying. It&#8217;s about how you live before you die.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">(Check out Amazon Prime &amp; Netflix for streaming.)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Happy to see that 3 of my produced works are still up at Prime: (<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><em>The Christmas Wife, Unlikely Angel, &amp; A Joyful Noise&#8221;episode of Touched by an Angel)<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Find myself watching films with actors I&#8217;ve worked with who are now gone. Jason Robards, Julie Harris, Hugh Cronyn, Teresa Wright. And friends who have passed on as well (Diane Ladd, etc).I sometimes call this &#8216;the price of staying on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u00a0&#8220;<em><strong>Film is without question the medium of our times<\/strong><\/em><\/span><em><strong>.&#8221;<\/strong> <\/em>Producer David Putnam (<em>Chariots of Fire, The Mission<\/em>) once said,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cIf films were what they might be\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong><\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>there would be no need to go to church.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Living with ghosts and wonderful memories this holiday. Yet somehow the future pulls us forward in spite of ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>I love writing. I love teaching. I love doing writing consults, and psychic readings. And luckily there is no limitation of one&#8217;s age with any of these vocations.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of each year, for decades now, I honor the ritual of tossing coins for the<em><strong> I CHING<\/strong><\/em>. Still amazed how this ancient book of prophecy can be so exact centuries later. One more magical experience. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (Recc the Richard Wilhelm translation, <em>Foreward<\/em> by C.
