I was persuaded to read the books myself which took me back to New York and my acting days – my first career. I did some voice over work at that time as well. You never know when something you did in the past will serve the future!
Noticing how more and more people prefer ‘listening’ to books rather than reading them – and not only in the car. Several friends listen to books at home when they’re in the kitchen, living room, or lying in bed, etc. So I invite both friends – known and unknown – to enjoy these books on audio. Recently completed a new play, Freud’s Oracle, a one-woman play about the American poet, H.D. who had a two-year analysis with Sigmund Freud in Vienna in the 1930s. Later they became friends and she helped persuade Freud to leave Vienna – during Hitler’s reign – and move with his family to London, where H. D. lived. The themes are the travesty of war – H.D. survived both world wars with considerable loss – and the theme of triumph of the individual spirit.
The first performance of Freud’s Oracle will be at The Ojai Retreat (Ojai, CA) April 9, 2016 and another in Santa Fe, NM early Aug 2016 (as part of the Creativity and Madness Conference).
Also an older play, The Women of Cedar Creek, is being revived and will have a full production at The Plaza Theater in Carpenteria, CA, the last two weekends in March 2016.
The Women of Cedar Creek (comedy/drama) is the inevitable dysfunctional family play every playwright must face. Imagine my surprise when it won more awards than my earlier plays! I learned a valuable lesson: the universal lies in the specific and not the other way round. Dare to be personal! What you think is only your story may mirror those of others.
