End of the year and the Grateful Dead

Grateful Dead Ojai, CA  2014

The Grateful Dead lines from the revolutionary sixties might currently apply to some of us; that “once in a while you can get shown the light / In the strangest of places if you look at it right.”

The last few months have been a terrific challenge with the death of a parent, family disputes, legal mazes, and work. In my latest book, I write about the growth of the soul, self-healing, and creating a deeper dialogue with the Self. 2013 has created a time to practice what I am teaching and writing about.

It’s all about awareness and using whatever comes our way –both positive and negative – to integrate and learn from. “Life is what happens when you are busy making plans.” Lennon was right. Family and other duties have made it necessary to put my own writing on hold which is in itself a terrific challenge as I feel more myself when I am writing. Patience has always been the toughest lesson and this past year I have been called upon to exercise patience.

A series of setbacks played havoc with my usual positive outlook. Then this morning which happened to be Christmas Eve, I awoke with this message streaming in.

(I should mention that often messages come through upon awakening from spirit guides of counsel to ideas for stories.) This was the message which came this Christmas Eve morning: “I embrace life as it is, knowing that joy and bliss and faith will return. My answer to such times of challenge is “yes to life!”

One of the major themes of Heal Your Self with Writing is that there is always choice. Even when there are times when we have no control over outer events, there is always choice of perspective: how we see and mobilize what is happening, how we learn and grow from all that transpires.

“Once in a while you can get shown the light

In the strangest of places if you look at it right.”

Challenges come to test us, to push our souls to grow.

What is required is to never lose faith in this process we call Life. May 2014 for us all be the best of years!
