THE WAY OF STORY with Catherine Ann Jones

“We’ve become lopsided living only in our heads. Writing, in order to serve the soul,          must integrate outer craft with the inner world of intuition and feeling.”                                                                                          – Catherine Ann Jones, NY TIMES

The Way of Story: The Craft & Soul of Writing offers an integrative approach to writing narrative, combining solid craft with experiential inner discovery. Craft alone is not enough. No other writing workshop offers the solid craft to guarantee a good story along with the intangible inner dimensions of writing.

  • For writers of all levels & all narrative forms including plays, screenplays, stories,           novels, non-fiction including memoir

“At last, a working, professional writer who teaches writing!” – Joe S., San Francisco

“Your structure gave my story wings. I’ve never been so clear on what I want to write.”                                                                                                                         – Linda L, Ann Arbor, MI “A spiritual experience as well as practical.”   – Gard J., Nevada

HEAL YOUR SELF WITH WRITING

Heal Your Self with Writing is an elixir for the soul.

                                                              –  Psychology Today

Our lives may be determined less by past events than by the way we remember them. You are invited to come aboard this inner adventure that offers a step by step journey of discovery and re-visioning through focused journaling. Telling stories about our past through focused journaling can help change our perspectives to enable healing and empowerment. In this way, we are able to make meaning out of memory and put the past where it belongs – behind us. Healing and transformation are only possible through changing one’s perspective from within. In this way, global healing takes place one individual, one tribe, at a time.

There is a Native American parable about a grandfather who says, I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one.” When asked which wolf will win the fight in his heart, the old man replies, “The one I feed.” How do we learn to “feed” the stories that heal?

What story are you living? How do you choose to remember your story?

FINDING YOUR VOICE IN MEMOIR

with award-winning author Catherine Ann Jones

How do I know about the world?

By what is within me.                                                                                                                  –Lao Tzu

In Remembrances of Things Past, French writer Marcel Proust conquered time in autobiography by exploring the self. He invented nothing, but altered everything. He did this by finding his own unique voice. We are our past. The way you discover other people’s stories is how we access our own. Learn tips on how to research and structure your life story, write three-dimensional characters, find the thematic thru-line, and discover your unique subjective voice. By opening ourselves and sharing our stories, we allow that connection so vital to living.
